On 28 October, a delegation from the Ministry of Energy of the Islamic Republic of Iran paid a working visit to Belhydromet.
The Belarusian side was headed by Tatsiana Chаtyrka, First Deputy Head of Belhydromet.
"Our countries are bound by long-standing friendly relations and fruitful cooperation. The Hydrometeorological Service of the Republic of Belarus is ready to contribute to the development of these relations, to share its experience and to answer all questions of interest in the field of hydrometeorology, environmental monitoring and radiation monitoring," noted the First Deputy Head of Belhydromet in her welcoming speech.
The meeting was also attended by Deputy Head of Belhydromet Mikhail Kavalenka, Chief Engineer of Belhydromet Yauhen Mayeuski, Head of the Aviation and Meteorological Support Service Andrei Petrochenko, and Head of the International Cooperation Department Vladimir Kasyanenko.
Deputy Minister of Energy of Iran Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi briefly outlined the functions and areas of work of the Ministry of Energy of Iran.
For reference. The Ministry of Energy of Iran is mainly responsible for electricity and water supply to the population. Although hydrometeorological support in Iran is handled by the Meteorological Organization of Iran, this area is of importance to the country's Ministry of Energy. Currently, Iran is actively using alternative energy sources. Electricity generation at hydroelectric power plants, solar and wind installations is directly affected by weather. In this regard, the Ministry must be aware of weather conditions and receive timely warnings about hazardous phenomena. Subdivisions of the Ministry also study issues related to cloud formation and precipitation, which is important for water supply to the population.
In turn, the First Deputy Head of Belhydromet told the guests about the main types of observations carried out by the state hydrometeorological service, about radar and meteorological monitoring points and the main complexes for processing meteorological data.
Particular attention was paid to the organization and conduct of radiation monitoring of the environment in the Republic of Belarus.
For reference. Belhydromet carries out observations of the natural radiation background, the radiation background in NPP areas, radioactive contamination of atmospheric air, surface waters and soil, and in territories subjected to radioactive contamination as a result of the Chernobyl NPP catastrophe.
As part of the visit, the delegation members also visited the Department of Short-Term Weather Forecasts and Adverse and Hazardous Phenomena, where they familiarized themselves with the work of Belhydromet's weather forecasters, as well as with the software and technical means for monitoring and forecasting weather conditions.

The meeting with the Iranian colleagues took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere and became another step towards strengthening professional ties between the Republic of Belarus and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
