Open Day at Belhydromet

On June 4, ahead of World Environment Day, Belhydromet held an Open Day.

The event was an excellent opportunity to introduce a wide audience to the work of the hydrometeorological service and to emphasize the importance of caring for nature. The event attracted students from Minsk Secondary School No. 137 and Gymnasium No. 43, as well as popular Belarusian blogger @AlexbulPogoda.

Belhydromet specialists conducted tours for visitors, revealing the history of the state hydrometeorological service. Guests were able to see the meteorological observation site firsthand and get acquainted with the meteorological instruments that daily record atmospheric parameters.

An important part of the tour was an introduction to the process of radiation monitoring across the territory of the Republic of Belarus. A specialist explained the monitoring system and its role in ensuring radiation safety and the environmental well-being of the country.

An equally exciting stage was the demonstration of the work of weather forecasters. Visitors learned the intricacies of weather forecasting — from collecting diverse data to applying modern mathematical models. Guests saw how, from a vast array of information, each daily forecast is born, allowing us to plan our lives while accounting for the whims of nature.

The Open Day not only broadened the horizons of the guests but also helped draw attention to issues of ecology and environmental protection. Belhydromet will continue to hold such events to promote scientific knowledge and inspire the younger generation to study natural processes.
