On April 24, a dialogue platform dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident was held at the educational institution "Minsk State College of Automotive Engineering." The event was attended by Irina Khorovets, Deputy Head of the Radiation Monitoring Service – Head of the Radiation Monitoring Department at Belhydromet.

The theme of the dialogue, "The Radiation Monitoring System: From the Chernobyl Accident to the Present Day," was chosen for good reason. Irina Grigorievna addressed the college students with the aim of explaining the causes and consequences of the accident, the history of radioactive contamination of Belarusian territory, as well as methods for ensuring personal safety in conditions of potential radioactive exposure.
The main focus was placed on the evolution of the radiation monitoring system in Belarus. The expert explained how, after the Chernobyl accident, a radical expansion of the observation network was required, including not only air monitoring but also the monitoring of water resources and soils. Data were presented on the current state of the system, its modern methods and technologies that make it possible to rapidly assess the radiation situation across the entire country.

The college students gained valuable information on the principles of radiation safety, rules of conduct in conditions of radioactive contamination, and the importance of regular environmental monitoring. Special attention was paid to how Belhydromet ensures that the public is informed about the radiation situation using various communication channels. The dialogue platform became an important step in raising young people's awareness of the consequences of one of the largest accidents in history and of the measures being taken by the state to ensure the safety of its citizens.
