Currently, sunny and warm weather prevails over most of the country. However, the synoptic situation will change as early as the coming day. On Thursday, May 7, weather conditions in Belarus will deteriorate due to atmospheric fronts that, stretching across the central regions of the country, will separate air masses with different temperature regimes. In this regard, Belarusians can expect a whole range of adverse weather phenomena, such as thunderstorms, heavy downpours, and squally winds. Furthermore, the temperature regime across the republic will be quite contrastive: hot weather up to +26…+30°C will persist in the southeast, while the northwest will see +9…+16°C with rains and cool air masses.
On Thursday, May 7, short-term thunderstorm rains are expected at night in the northwestern half and during the day over most of the republic. During the day, heavy downpours and squally wind gusts of 15–20 m/s are forecast in some areas during thunderstorms. Light fog is possible in some districts at night and in the morning. The minimum temperature at night will be +10…+15°C, with some places +5…+9°C; the maximum daytime temperature will range from +16°C in the northwest to +30°C in the southeast.
On Friday, May 8, the influence of a system of contrasting atmospheric fronts will persist in Belarus, followed by the spread of cool air masses from Northern Europe. As a result, rains will occur in many regions, with heavy rains expected in some areas. With local development of cumulonimbus clouds, thunderstorms will occur. During the day, winds will strengthen with gusts of 15–20 m/s during thunderstorms. Nighttime air temperatures will be +7…+13°C, and up to +15°C in the south and southeast. During the day, temperature contrasts between the cool northwest and the warm southeast will persist across the republic, ranging from +9°C to +26°C.
According to preliminary data, on Saturday, May 9, the temperature background will continue to decrease but will remain contrastive. At the same time, rains are unavoidable. Rains will occur at night over most of the territory and in some places during the day. At night, heavy rains and wind gusts of 15–18 m/s are expected in some districts of the Vitebsk region. Thunderstorms are forecast in some areas. Light fog is possible in some southern districts at night and in the morning. The minimum nighttime temperature will be +4…+10°C, and the maximum daytime temperature will range from +8°C in the north to +21°C in the southeast.
