On June 3, 2026, as part of the regional studies educational orientation practice, an excursion was held at Belhydromet for second-year students of the Faculty of Geography and Geoinformatics of Belarusian State University.
This event became an important milestone in deepening the knowledge of future geographers and geoinformatics specialists about the operations of the state hydrometeorological service.
The event was led by experienced Belhydromet staff, who shared their knowledge and practical experience. Georgy Kamlyuk, Lead Meteorology Engineer of the Meteorological Monitoring Department of the Meteorological and Climate Monitoring Service and Data Fund, provided students with a fascinating insight into the history of the state hydrometeorological service. He outlined the key stages of its formation and development and introduced the students to the modern instruments installed at the automatic meteorological site. The students learned about the operating principles of meteorological equipment and how meteorological data is collected and processed.

Next, Marina Luksha, Deputy Head of the Meteorological Forecast Service, immersed the students in the complex yet captivating world of weather forecasting. She detailed the methods and technologies used at Belhydromet to produce accurate weather forecasts. Special attention was given to the role of modern numerical models, along with actual meteorological, aerological, satellite, and radar data in this process. The students gained a unique opportunity to understand how scientific knowledge is transformed into practical forecasts that are critically important for various sectors of activity.

The excursion left vivid impressions on the students and contributed to a deeper understanding of the importance of meteorological activities for society and the country's economy.
