Belhydromet at the Science Festival

On September 5, 2026, Belhydromet took part in the Science Festival, which was held at the Central Botanical Garden of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus with comprehensive support from the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Belarus.

The Science Festival in Minsk is the country's largest popular science event. Its main goal is to make scientific achievements closer and more understandable to a wide audience: to acquaint residents and guests of the capital with the latest developments of scientists, and to help them understand modern scientific knowledge and technologies. This year, the festival venue once again brought together researchers, teachers, students, and everyone interested in science.

Belhydromet presented its work in the "Ecology" zone. The interactive stand of our organization attracted the attention of visitors with the opportunity not only to learn about the activities of the hydrometeorological service, but also to try themselves in the role of specialists.

Belhydromet specialists organized 2 master classes:

- a master class on conducting field surveys. Participants learned about the principles of radio spectrometry, the radiation situation, and monitoring objects. Everyone could take part in measuring the gamma radiation dose rate and determine the radionuclide composition of a sample using a spectrometer.
- a master class on atmospheric air sampling. In this session, visitors learned how to properly take air samples using absorption devices, what indicators are analyzed, and why air quality monitoring is an important element of the environmental control system.

Participation in the Science Festival is not only an opportunity to talk about the work of Belhydromet, but also a way to interest young people in environmental protection activities, to show the applied significance of environmental research and the importance of accurate measurements for the well-being of society.

Belhydromet thanks the organizers of the Science Festival and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus for the opportunity to be part of this significant educational event and to contribute to the popularization of science in the Republic of Belarus.
