August began with temperature records

A real heatwave swept across the country in the first days of the month. The maximum air temperature was recorded on August 1 at the Brest weather station – thermometers rose to +36.3°C!

During the first two days of August, weather stations across the country were breaking historical highs en masse.

On August 1, daily records were broken at 10 weather stations:

- Brest: +36.3°C (previous record +35.0°C in 1994);
- Pinsk: +35.6°C (previous record +33.7°C in 2014);
- Polesskaya: +35.2°C (previous record +33.8°C in 2014);
- Ivatsevichy: +35.1°C (previous record +34.5°C in 1994);
- Zhitkovichy: +35.1°C (previous record +33.6°C in 1938);
- Mozyr: +35.0°C (previous record +33.3°C in 2014);
- Lelchitsy: +34.9°C (previous record +33.0°C in 1994);
- Oktyabr: +34.9°C (previous record +33.7°C in 2014);
- Gantsevichi: +34.4°C (previous record +34.0°C in 2014);
- Slutsk: +34.1°C (previous record +33.9°C in 2014).

At the Babruysk weather station, the daily record from 2014 (+32.9°C) was tied on August 1.

On August 2 – the heat wave continued:

- Mozyr: +35.4°C (previous record +34.3°C in 2014);
- Bragin: +34.9°C (previous record +34.0°C in 2014);
- Lelchitsy: +33.3°C (previous record +31.9°C in 1998).

Most of the previous temperature maxima dated back to 2014 and 1994, while in Zhitkovichy, an 88-year-old record (from 1938) fell!
