34th session of the Interstate Council for Hydrometeorology of the Commonwealth of Independent States

On September 27, 2023, the 34th session of the Interstate Council for Hydrometeorology of the Commonwealth of Independent States (hereinafter referred to as the CIS MSG) was held in Baku, the Republic of Azerbaijan via videoconference. The session was chaired by Nazim Mahmudov, Head of the National Hydrometeorological Service under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The delegations from Belarus, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and the CIS Executive Committee took part in the session.

The delegation of the Republic of Belarus was headed by Svetlana Kuzmich, First Deputy Head of the state institution "Republican Center for Hydrometeorology, Control of Radioactive Contamination and Environmental Monitoring" (Belhydromet).
The Belarusian delegation also included:
Andrey Korobchuk, chief of the International Cooperation and Public Relations Service of Belhydromet;
Natalia Sviridovich, chief of the Environmental Monitoring Service of Belhydromet, Chairman of the WG-5 MSG CIS;
Svetlana Makeich, chief of the Analytical Work and Science Service of Belhydromet;
Polina Palchekh, a leading engineer of the Environmental information Service of Belhydromet, a member of the WG-5 MSG CIS from the Republic of Belarus.
"For more than 30 years of its existence the Interstate Council for Hydrometeorology of the Commonwealth of Independent States has acquired its own traditions and today is one of the key platforms in the Commonwealth of Independent States for discussing global trends, agendas in the field of hydrometeorology and related fields and making appropriate decisions for the development of the hydrometeorological industry in the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States" - Svetlana Kuzmich noted in her welcoming speech.

During the session, the members of the CIS MSG discussed the activities of national hydrometeorological services, their interaction within the CIS and the World Meteorological Organization, reviewed the implementation of the Agreement on the Interstate Hydrometeorological Network of the CIS, familiarized themselves with the implementation of the Strategy for the Development of Hydrometeorological Activities of the member States of the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Plan for its implementation, heard information about the inventory of the contractual and legal framework in areas of hydrometeorology and considered a number of other issues.

Andrey Korobchuk made a report on the activities of the National Hydrometeorological Service of the Republic of Belarus and cooperation with the CIS and WMO.

Natalia Sviridovich presented a report on the topic "Organization and conduct of observations of the chemical composition of atmospheric precipitation in the CIS member States".

Svetlana Makeich spoke about the implementation of priority areas of scientific research of the Republic of Belarus within the framework of the CIS MSG.

During the session of the CIS MSG 18 issues were considered on which specific decisions were made aimed at improving the effectiveness of cooperation in the field of hydrometeorology.
In accordance with the documents of the session Nazim Mahmudov, Head of the National Hydrometeorological Service under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan, was appointed Chairman of the CIS MSG for the next period.
The next 35th session of the CIS MSG is scheduled for the 3rd quarter of 2024 in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
