Overview of hydrological situation of March 22, 2023

In the past day, the Zapadnaya Dvina was cleared of ice formations in the area of Polotsk, its tributary, the Obol river, was opened.

As of March 22, glaciation with polynyas and divorces is observed on the Western Dvina near the town of Surazh and settlement Ulla, its tributaries of the Polota and Drysa rivers, the ice has darkened, in places the ice has lifted. On most of the lakes and reservoirs of the country, there is ice with polynyas, open water spaces along the shores are everywhere observed. It is extremely dangerous to go out on the ice!

On the rivers, there is mainly an increase in water levels with a daily intensity of up to 34 cm . The water is located on the floodplain on most rivers of the Berezina, Sozh and Pripyat basins, some rivers of the Neman, Vilia and Dnieper basins.

On the Pripyat near the town of Petrikov, its tributary to the Ptich river near the village of Persha Slobodka and the Sozh tributary to the Pronya river near the village Letyagi water levels exceed dangerously high levels. Water levels are close to dangerously high levels on the Dnieper tributary of the Drut river at the village of Gorodishche, Pripyat at the village of Chernichi, its tributaries of the Tsna river at the village of Dyatlovichi and Sluch at settlement Lenin.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, river flooding is observed in a number of districts of Gomel, Mogilev and Minsk regions.

In the coming days, water levels will continue to rise on most of the country's rivers, the rivers of the Zapadnaya Dvina basin will continue to be cleared of ice formations, and its tributary, the Polota river, will open.
