Review of the agrometeorological situation of March 12, 2019
In the first decade of March warm weather contributed to further destruction of ice cover and soil melting. According to recent observation data, frozen soil layer with thickness 2-10 cm is registered in the extreme north-west and north-east of the country as well as in the north of Brest region, in certain areas it was up to 17-28 cm. In most of Belarus soil thawed to full depth or inconsiderable subfreezing of topsoil is observed at negative night temperatures.
Soil drying started in Brest and Gomel regions. Despite precipitations here, topsoil reached moderate humid state that allowed agricultural factories of southern areas to start partial spring works. It is possible now to cultivate soil and applicate nutrients on the areas with drying soil.
Changeable weather expected in the coming days (precipitations in form of rain and wet snow, air temperature decrease) will slow drying and warming of soil, start of winter crops vegetation.
