Review of the agrometeorological situation of April 2, 2019
Warm weather contributed to more active drying of topsoil in the western, central and eastern parts of Belarus at the end of March. This allowed increasing the pace of field works and early spring crops sowing. According to data of visual observations, topsoil is in a moderate moistened state in most of the country that contributes to active agricultural work. However, because of drop in temperature conditions for soil warming-up worsened in early April. Under the influence of negative temperature, subfreezing of topsoil is observed at night. Average soil temperature at depth of 10 cm is +5 +7°С, in the south – up to +8°С. Overmoistening of topsoil remains on most of Vitebsk region as well as in places of Mogilev region and in the north of Grodno region. In the meantime, low moistening of topsoil is already observed on light lands because of deficit of precipitations.
In the first 5 days of April, weather (mainly without precipitations) will contribute to soil drying in the northern part of Belarus. Herewith, areas with insufficient moistening of topsoil may increase on the light lands of southern region of Belarus. Because of drop in temperature, especially at night, vegetation of winter crops, aftergrowth of perennial grass won’t be active, period of appearance of spring crops appearance will increase.
