Review of the agrometeorological situation of April 12, 2019
Because of precipitation deficit, amount of moisture in soil is decreasing, especially in the topsoil. According to the results of instrumental determination of moisture content, Amount of productive moisture ranges from 25 mm to 55 mm in tilth topsoil depending on mechanical composition. That characterizes sufficient water availability of winter crops, but it is not for beginning of vegetation enough according to the average long-term rate. Under the winter cereal crops amount of productive moisture on sandy soil and sandy loam soil decreased up to moderate (less than 25 mm) in tilth topsoil in several areas of southern part of Belarus and in the west. Moisture content is increased (up to 60-65 mm in ploughed horizon) on heavy soils in some areas of Vitebsk region and in the north of Minsk region. According to recent data of visual observations, poor moistening of topsoil remains on the light soils in several regions of the Republic.
Weather mainly without precipitation will contribute to further moisture loss in soil in the second decade of April. Lack of constant warm will slow development of winter crops, aftergrowth of perennial herbs and emergence of early spring crops seedlings.
