Review of the agrometeorological situation of April 5, 2019
Sunny weather without precipitations contributes to further soil drying. Under the influence of negative temperature, subfreezing of topsoil is still registered at nighttime. According to recent observational data, topsoil is well moistened and it has warmed up to +5 +7°С, in the southern regions – up to +8°С. This allows to sustain rapid paces of fieldworks and early spring crops sowing. Overmoistening of topsoil is also registered mainly on heavy soils in Vitebsk region. At the same time, because of precipitation deficit, areas with poor moistening of topsoil has increased in Gomel and Brest regions.
In the second 5 days of April, expected short rains should moist topsoil in southern part of the Republic that coupled with probable temperature increase will benefit grain germination and emergence of early spring crops. Due to temperature increase, vegetation of winter cereal crops, winter rape and perennial grass becomes active. According to recent data, tillering continues on observational sites with winter cereal crops. Grain germination is observed on the fields with spring cereal crops sowed at the end of March. Gemmation is registered in the gardens with fruit trees, bud bursting started in the south.
