Overview of agrometeorological situation of September 22, 2023
The lack of precipitation combined with warm weather led to a further decrease in moisture reserves in the soil. The past mostly light rains have moistened the topsoil only in places. According to the results of instrumental determination of soil moisture in most of the territory of Belarus the reserves of productive moisture in the arable horizon under winter cereals and winter rapeseed, as well as in fields intended for winter sowing, are satisfactory, in some areas of the southern half of the country are low. According to the Berezino, Oktyabr and Vysokoe meteorological stations soil drought has reached the criterion of a dangerous agrometeorological phenomenon. On desiccated soils unfavorable conditions develop for tillage and sowing, grain germination and the emergence of winter crops. The abundance of moisture remains mainly in the north-east of the republic and in some places in the central part.
The expected rains at the end of this week should moisten the topsoil in many areas of the country, which will improve agrometeorological conditions for sowing and further development of winter crops.
