Overview of agrometeorological situation of May 3, 2024
Due to the excess precipitation in the past decade there has been an increase in moisture reserves, especially significant on soils with heavy mechanical composition. Nevertheless, according to the results of instrumental determination of soil moisture in most of the territory of Belarus, the moisture supply of agricultural crops remained good. In many districts of Vitebsk, in the north of Mogilev and in some places in Minsk and Grodno regions, the moisture content is increased. In some areas in the northeastern region of Belarus, where waterlogging has persisted for a long time, there was an excess of soil moisture.
According to visual observations, in many regions of the country, at a depth of 10 cm, the soil is in a moderately moist state, strong humidification is still observed in a number of districts of Vitebsk and in the south-west of the Mogilev region. In places in the central part of the Minsk region, the topsoil is poorly moistened on light soils. Warm and dry weather contributes to the drying of soils, the pace of spring field work has intensified. In the coming week the predicted short-term rains will again increase the soil moisture content.
