The cold weather slowed the growth and development of agricultural crops, inhibited the accumulation of vegetative mass in perennial grasses. Early-season and in some areas mid-season grasses reached harvest maturity in the southern half of the country. On most observed fields the height of the herbage is below last year's level. The frosts created unfavorable conditions for planting seedlings, sowing and the emergence of heat-loving crops.
In the near future agrometeorological conditions for the development of heat-demanding crops will slightly improve. The expected rains will be favorable for the growth of grass, however, in some areas they may complicate the conditions for the ongoing forage harvesting.
