Overview of agrometeorological situation of March 22, 2023
The warm weather that has been established on the territory of Belarus since mid-March has accelerated the destruction of the snow cover and contributed to the thawing of the soil. According to the latest observations, a small snow cover in the fields remains in the northeast and in some places in the northwest of the republic. The soil in most of the country has completely thawed. In the southern part and in the west of the republic, the drying of the soil began – on the lightest soils, the upper 10-centimeter layer dried to a moderately moist state and warmed up to +4 +5°C, in the Brest region – to +6 +7°C. Tillage has become possible on the dried-out areas, winter crops are being fertilized, early spring crops have been selectively sown, more actively in the Brest region.
In the near future, warm weather will contribute to the maturation of the soil, the resumption of vegetation of winter crops and perennial grasses, which will allow farms to increase the pace of field agricultural work. However, at the end of this week, due to the expected rains, the conditions for drying the soil may worsen.
