Overview of agrometeorological situation of January 26, 2023

In the second half of January, overwintering of winter crops takes place in conditions of thawing weather. The agrometeorological situation is complicated by waterlogging of the soil, primarily heavy in mechanical composition. In low places in the fields, stagnation of water can be observed. There is practically no snow cover in the fields or its height does not exceed 1-4 cm, in some north-western regions 8-9 cm. In many parts of the country, the soil is thawed, sometimes slightly frozen. A more significant frozen layer with a thickness of 10-29 cm is preserved only in the eastern part of Vitebsk and in the north-east of the Mogilev region. To determine the viability, samples of winter cereals, rapeseed, perennial grasses were selected and their regrowth is carried out. A slight decrease in the temperature regime, expected at the end of the week, should not pose a danger to wintering crops.
