Overview of agrometeorological situation of February 24, 2023
The observed short-term cooling did not pose a threat to the main arrays of wintering crops. On the coldest night, the air temperature in the southwestern half of the country did not fall below -5 -12°C, which is not dangerous for winter crops. In many areas of the northeastern half of the country, the air at night cooled to -15 -20°C, according to some weather stations - to -23 -28°C. Here, in most areas, winter crops were protected from damage by snow cover, the height of which varies mainly from 7-10 cm to 15-25 cm, in places in the extreme north-east of the republic is about 30-40 cm. In some areas of the central region and the southeastern part of Belarus, where the snow cover is small or absent, and the temperature dropped to -12 -14°C, there are some concerns about winter rape, which does not tolerate temperature changes.
In the near future, low temperatures that pose a danger to wintering crops are not expected.
