Overview of agrometeorological situation of February 12, 2024

Under the influence of the winter weather in Belarus the soil is freezing. According to recent observations the soil has frozen mostly to 5-15 cm. The height of snow cover in the fields in most of the country is no more than 1-5 cm, in most areas of the southwestern part of Belarus there is no snow cover. The soil temperature at the depth of the tillering node of winter crops did not fall below 1-6°C.
In the second decade of February due to the expected increase in frosts the agrometeorological situation will become more complicated. Due to the lack of precipitation snow cover remains insufficient. The soil temperature at the depth of the tillering node of winter crops may drop to lower values. In such a situation the possibility of damage, primarily to winter rapeseed and winter barley, is not excluded.
