Overview of agrometeorological situation of August 14, 2020

Main areas allotted for sugar beets were sown at the optimal time this year. Warm weather and sufficient soil moisture in June promoted growth of leaves and the beginning of the growth of sugar beet roots. In the main zone of beet growing, moisture supply deteriorated however, in the future, due to lack of precipitation в in the second half of July, in some places a lack of soil moisture was already noted. Root crop growth slowed down in such areas. In many regions of beet growing, soil drought of varying intensity was established in the first half of August due to continuing deficit of precipitation.
As of August 10 according to data from sugar industry enterprises and weather stations average weight of the root crop was less than last year for the same period. Sugar content of root crops is higher than last year.
