Overview of agrometeorological situation of April 4, 2023
Unstable weather with precipitation suspended the maturation of the soil, field work and sowing of early spring crops. In most of the country, the topsoil is still waterlogged, in a moderately moist state it is found only on the lightest soils in the Brest, Grodno and western parts of the Gomel region, which allows for selective spring sowing here. In many areas, a small snow cover has formed again, soil freezing is observed. According to the results of an instrumental determination carried out in the southern half of the republic, moisture reserves in the meter layer under winter crops are within the average perennial and by 10-30%, in some areas of the Gomel region – by 40-60% more than normal.
In the coming days, the agrometeorological situation on the territory of Belarus will not change significantly. Some improvement in the conditions for sowing and vegetation of crops is expected only at the end of the first decade of April.
