The established cold weather has complicated agrometeorological conditions for sowing, seed germination and emergence of early spring crops, and has slowed down the development of winter crops and the regrowth of perennial grasses.
According to the latest visual observation data, the upper 10‑centimeter layer of soil is in a moderately moist state; only in some areas of northern Belarus has strong wetness been recorded. Soil temperatures have dropped and range from +3 to +5 °C, reaching +6 °C in the southwestern regions.
In the coming days, a lower temperature regime will persist and the upper soil layer will be subject to freezing due to negative nighttime air temperatures. In the forthcoming week, as the temperature background rises, plant vegetation will become active again.
