Overview of agrometeorological situation of March 17, 2021
Unstable weather in March delayed the start of spring field work in Belarus. According to the latest data, a small snow cover has again formed in some places in the republic. In the extreme eastern regions, snow remains about 10 cm high in the fields. The soil is thawed or freezing of the upper layer is noted. Only in the east and north-east of the country freezing remains up to 20 cm, in the Goretsky region - up to 45 cm.
Based on the prevailing agrometeorological conditions and the weather forecast, sowing of early spring crops this year in Belarus will begin much later than last year. According to a preliminary forecast, in the third decade of March, conditions for soil drying out will improve somewhat, primarily in the south-west of the republic, which will allow selective field agricultural work at the end of the month. We assume that it will be possible to intensify field work and sowing early spring crops in a large territory of the republic in the first half of April.
