Climate characteristic of October 2018

 
Average temperature was about +8,0°С around the country in October, that is 1, 3°С above climate normal. The highest values of positive deviations of air temperatures were registered in Grodno region (+1,7ºС), the lowest deviations – in Vitebsk and Mogilev regions (+1,0ºС).

Daily temperature exceeded +10°С in first and second decades, it decreased up to +3 +8°С in the third decade. Warm temperature settled in the second decade: daily temperature was above +15°С and was about +20°С in certain days. Maximum value of air temperature was registered at the station Polesskaya on October, 7 and was about +23,8°С; unusual warm temperature settled in the south on October, 30, and in the west of the country on October, 31 (6-10°С above climate normal). New daily record (+20,3°С) was registered in Brest on October 30, that exceeded record of 1960 by +0,5°С. Daily records of maximum air temperature were exceeded almost at all the observation points mainly in second decade. 
Night temperatures ranged from +1 to +8°С. Freezing with the intensity 0 -6°С in the air was observed in the coldest nights, on the surface – up to -7°С. Minimum air temperature was registered on  October, 22 at the station Polesskaya and was about -6, 0°С.  
40 mm of precipitation fell out on average around the country in October that is 78% of climate normal. Precipitations were irregular during the month. 26 mm of precipitation or 52% of climate normal fell out in Gomel region that is the smallest value.

About the half of decade precipitation normal fell out in the first decade. Very dry weather settled in the second decade of October, there was no precipitation across the country. Such dry decade is observed for the second time since 1979. Third decade was wet – about two decade normals fell out.

Maximum daily amount of precipitation (19 mm) was registered in Kostukovichi on October, 29. 
Snow and wet snow were registered in the third decade. Snow cover with a height 1-5 cm settled for a short period on the north-east of the country (Polotsk and Vitebsk, October 26, 2018). Average date when the snow cover appears is usually the first decade of November.
 Wind was up to 15-19 m/s on certain days. Its maximum value (19 m/s) was registered in Grodno on October, 3;  in Dokshitsy and Klichev – on October, 4. Fog was observed in some areas. Accretion of wet snow was registered in the north regions at the end of the month (diameter up to 10 mm in Ezerishchi, October, 26).
