Every year on September 16, the world community celebrates the International Day for the Protection of the Ozone Layer.
This date is timed to coincide with the signing of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer in 1987. The Protocol became an important step in solving the global environmental problem and united the efforts of many countries to protect the Earth's ozone layer.
The ozone layer is a thin layer in the stratosphere that protects all life on Earth from harmful ultraviolet radiation from the Sun. Projects are being implemented in Belarus to replace ozone-depleting substances with ozone-safe alternatives in various industries.
The theme "Ozone for Life", chosen for International Ozone Layer Day in 2025, is a powerful reminder of the vital role of the ozone layer in supporting life on Earth.
