Results of extreme temperatures at the end of June

In the last days of June, it was incredibly hot, especially in the western and southern regions of the country, where absolute maximum air temperature records were broken both for June and for the entire history of meteorological observations. During the daytime on June 29, at the Pinsk weather station, a national record for Belarus of maximum air temperature (+40.4 °C) was registered – this is the highest value for the entire period of instrumental observations. The previous record was registered at the Gomel weather station on August 8, 2010. At that time, the air temperature was 1.5 °C lower and amounted to +38.9 °C.

Nighttime temperature records were also set, and a phenomenon known as tropical nights was observed, when the air temperature reaches +20 °C or higher. On June 29, one of the hottest nights for the entire period of meteorological observations was recorded: at the Grodno and Brest weather stations, the minimum air temperatures were +24.7 °C and +23.5 °C, respectively. The hottest tropical night, with a minimum air temperature of +25.8 °C, was recorded at the Vitebsk weather station on August 8, 2010.
