On the main areas under grain crops, grain filling has been completed and ripening is underway. On most observed fields, wax and full ripeness of grain has been recorded. Moderate temperature conditions and, over most of the territory of the republic, sufficient soil moisture have contributed to the formation of a well-filled ear. According to data from many stations, the duration of grain filling has increased to two or three weeks. However, in some areas of the Brest region, due to soil drought and abnormally high temperatures at the end of June, the grain filling period shortened to one week.
Ongoing rainfall and high air humidity are delaying grain drying. The prevailing grain moisture content is elevated – about 20–30%, with locally 17–18% in the southern regions.
In the near future, due to unstable weather conditions, the situation for harvesting operations is unlikely to be favourable.
