Climate characteristic of March 2018

 In March 2018, the average air temperature in Belarus was -2.6 ° С, which is 2.8 ° С below the climatic norm. A negative anomaly spread throughout the country. The greatest negative deviations in air temperature from the climatic norm were recorded in the Mogilev region (on the average in the region -4.0С), the lowest in the Brest region (on the average in the region -1.1 ° С). For the period 1981-2018. such cold march in Belarus happens about once in 5 years.

In March the weather was unstable. Daytime air temperatures at the beginning of the month were kept within -3 -13 ° C, later they ranged from slightly negative to slightly positive values, sometimes reaching + 10 ° C and higher. On the warmest day of March 13, the maximum monthly temperature value (+ 14.2 ° C) was recorded in Brest. Night temperatures in most of the day were negative, on separate nights, dropped to -15 ° C and lower. The minimum value of air temperature was registered on March 7 in Pruzhany and amounted to -21.5 ° С.
All ten days of the month were cold, but the coldest was the first decade, when the average air temperature was 4 ° C below the climatic norm. In the second and third decades, the deviation of the average air temperature from the climatic norm was -1.9 ° C and -2.5 ° C, respectively.

On average, 37 mm of precipitation fell in March for Belarus, which amounted to 94% of the climatic norm. Most of the precipitation fell on the territory of the Gomel region - an average of 61 mm or 159% of the climatic norm. The least amount of precipitation fell on the territory of the Grodno region - an average of 23 mm in the region, which is 58% of the climatic norm.

The first decade of the month was wet when 177% of the precipitation climatic norm fell. In the second and third decades there was a shortage of precipitation - 52 and 57% of the climatic norm, respectively. Precipitation fell mainly in the form of snow and wet snow.

The snow cover over most of the country lay throughout the month. In places, mainly in the Brest and Grodno regions, it was retained in the first decade, and later its demolition took place, and in some regions it fell again during snowfalls, and then melted again. On the last day of the month, the snow height in the republic ranged from 1 cm to 29 cm. In Brest and Grodno, snow cover in places in the Minsk region is completely absent.

On some days of March, in places, the wind increased to 15-17 m / s, the maximum speed of which (17 m/s) was registered on March 17 in Volozhin. Fogs, icy-frosty phenomena were also observed, ice on some parts of the roads.
The duration of sunshine ranged from 97 hours in Maryina Gorka to 147 hours in Sharkovshina at a rate of 125 to 140 hours.
