Review of the agrometeorological situation of June 25, 2019
Grain filling of barley and oat has started in large areas of southern part of Belarus and in certain areas of northern part - milky ripeness is observed. That is 1-2 weeks earlier, in some areas 3 weeks earlier than last year. Blossoming of spring wheat is observed in certain areas. Grain filling of winter cereal crops continue. Gold ripeness of winter barley is observed in some areas of Brest region.
Past rains significantly fulfilled content of soil moisture in large parts of Brest and Gomel regions, in the southern part of Minsk regions and other areas. However, because of uneven distribution of precipitations in certain areas of the country, mainly in the eastern and south-eastern parts of Gomel region and in the north-west of the country, deficit of soil moisture is still observed. Damages of cereal crops as a result of drought were registered by the meteorological stations of Minsk, Mogilev and Grodno regions as well as of south-west of Vitebsk region. Cereal crops were most affected by the drought in the north-eastern half of Gomel region – crop failure is observed here.
Expected intermittent rains in the second half of this week will be poorly distributed. Drought may remain in certain area of the Republic. Amelioration of water availability coupled with expected temperature decrease will contribute to grain filling of cereals.
