Review of the agrometeorological situation of January 22, 2019
Depth of soil freezing ranges from 5 cm to 20 cm in most of north and south-west parts of the Republic, in certain areas – up to 21-36 cm. Soil freezing is less than 5 cm in the remain territory, soil is thawed in the west of Belarus. According to observational data, soil temperature at depth of tillering node of winter crops is above optimal values. Exhaustion and asphyxiation of sowings could happen in case of persistence of such agrometeorological situation till the end of overwintering and inactive development of spring processes.
Frost strengthening, which is expected this week, is not dangerous for winter crops in case of sufficient snow cover in most of Belarus. However, there is a risk of winter crops damages in the south-west of the country where snow cover is small or absent.
