Review of the agrometeorological situation of April 16, 2019

Because of precipitation deficit, further moisture loss from soil is observed, areas with poor moistening of topsoil are increasing. According to recent data of visual observations, poor moisture of 10-cm topsoil is registered in many areas of southern part of Belarus and in places of north-east of the Republic that worsens conditions for soil treatment, germination and emergence of spring crops seedlings. Soil at depth of 10 cm is in a moderate moistened state on most of the Republic. Mass sowings of flax, sugar beet continues in the Republic of Belarus, sowings of spring cereal crops is being completed, potato planting and maize sowing started in the south. Because of cooling, soil temperature is below optimal for sowing of heat-loving crops. Germination is observed on the sowings of spring cereal crops. Seedlings that were in the areas sowed in March – beginning of April appeared in the southern regions.
In the coming days, weather mainly without precipitations coupled with decreased night temperatures will slow germination and emergence of spring crops seedlings.
